CAREER HIGHLIGHTS
Worked with research personnel to produce the first definitive smoke management publication, The Southern Forestry Smoke Management Guidebook.
Served as Senior Author for the 1967 and 1978 revisions, and Reviewer of the 1989 update, of A Guide for Prescribed Fire in Southern Forest.
Written numerous articles for the Journal of Forestry, Forest Farmer, Treasure Forests, Alabama Forests & American Pulpwood Association.
Assisted the states of Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, and Alabama in developing a Smoke Management Guidelines program.
Wrote two training manuals, one on Smoke Management and the other on Fire Behavior.
Developed a correspondence course on fire suppression for the University of Florida, Division of Continuing Education.
Developed a two-phase training program to meet the requirements of the “Alabama Prescribed Burning Act” that was passed in 1995. Also conducted numerous sessions of the training program since that time.
Under contract with Auburn University, developed an expanded version of this training program for the web available at http://www.pfmt.org/fire/.
Developed a Fire Management Plan for the Horseshoe Bend National Military Park. The objective is to use fire to restore the composition of species that was on the site at the time of the battle in 1814.
INSTRUCTION
Instructor: Instructed at numerous national and regional training courses throughout the United States, serving professionals from industry and government from many countries.
Coordinator: Conducted numerous region-wide tours and briefings for foreign foresters from many different countries as well as foresters from industry and government agencies in the United States.
EXPERT WITNESS
Retained as an expert witness in numerous litigation cases involving Smoke problems, escaped fires and damages from wild fires. These cases range from Alaska to Florida.
